The Heim House Estate was built in 1926 at the height of the Florida land boom as the residence of Mr. L.R. Heim.Mr. Heim, a wealthy Connecticut-based manufacturer with several patents in ball bearings, played a significant role in the development of Mount Dora.
He developed the Sylvan Shores subdivision, co-founded the First National Bank, and personally donated $50,000 to help it survive the 1929 stock market crash.He also owned the town newspaper, donated the historic street lighting still seen along Old 441 near Lake Dora, and gifted the land and stadium now known as "Heim Field Ball Park."Eleventh Avenue is named Heim Road.The property remained a private residence until1994, when it was transformed into a charming bed and breakfast, the Magnolia Inn.
In November 2023, Sandy and Joe became proud new owners after retiring in June-Sandy from a career as a paralegal, and Joe from teaching high school math.Sandy delights in preparing the gourmet breakfasts that the inn is known for, while Joe enjoys maintaining and restoring the historic estate.Their shared vision is to restore the Magnolia Inn to its original grandeur and share its timeless charm with every guest.
